He spent two years in Asia engaging in extended meditation and chi kung practice and exploring various eastern mystical traditions. It was in Asia that he discovered a book by A.H. Almaas, founder of the Diamond Approach and prompted his return the US to join a group. Having competed in two Olympic Trials as a professional runner and engaged with a Five Animal Form of Chi Kung for the past 35 years he brings a unique perspective on the importance of the body in spiritual exploration. This includes an emphasis on how we relate to the body in meditation and spiritual inquiry. He places a priority in all spiritual practice on the necessity of love, compassion and acceptance for the usual self that is the core of our suffering.
