File tagging File:Refugee from Ukrainian in the train 20220228.jpg[edit]
This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Refugee from Ukrainian in the train 20220228.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Image listed for copyright[edit]
Hi. Where it is that I have posted it, I cited youthpoliticalinsider.com which is the website listed on the twitter account. FranciscoJLl (talk) 17:06, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi FranciscoJLl,
- You uploaded the image File:FXorQEAUUAEWNDF (1).png to this site, Wikimedia Commons, a site which only accepts free licenced images (public domain or licenced by the original copyright holder under a compatible licence {see Commons:Licensing}).
- When uploading the image here you claimed you where the copyright owner and were relising it under a compatible cc licence (a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International). It seems to me that you are not the author or copyright holder (as you said it's from youthpoliticalinsider.com) and so didn't have the right to release it. The website also hasn't (as far as I can see) released it under a compatible licence.
- Unless you can get the youthpoliticalinsider to release said image (see This page for details) then this is a copyright violation and will be removed. Cakelot1 (talk) 17:18, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi I am the owner of the youthpoliticalnsider domain and twitter page where you have found this image FranciscoJLl (talk) 17:23, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
- Then you should follow the steps at Commons:Volunteer Response Team to release the content under a compatible licence. Cakelot1 (talk) 17:27, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Die Gartenlaube (1885) 113 (cropped).jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Die Gartenlaube (1885) 113 (cropped).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Coat of arms of the London Borough of Lewisham[edit]
You've done beautiful work with this coat of arms (as you have with many other London boroughs) but I have a couple of queries about the colouring. Firstly, the 'purpure' and 'vert' backgrounds behind the crowned lions' heads appear to have been swapped around from the way they usually appear [see, for example, the coat of arms used in this PDF: https://councilmeetings.lewisham.gov.uk/documents/s28141/Baroness%20Doreen%20Lawrence%20Brochure.pdf]. Secondly, the 'purpure' elements in the shield and the crest's wreath presently look more dark red than purple. The hue matters because the 'vert', 'purpure' and 'sable' in the coat of arms are apparently intended to represent Lee Green, Hither (heather) Green and Blackheath. Thanks in advance for giving this matter your consideration. Russ London (talk) 07:25, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- Your Quite right about the way round of colours should be on the escutcheon (probably just my sloppy reading of the blazon). I've now swapped them. I've also changed the shade used for purpure to be in line with that used by sodacan's pallet (which I think looks more clearly purple). Thanks for letting me know about this and let me know if you see any other problems, with any of my other emblazonments. Cakelot1 (talk) 08:04, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- Absolutely fantastic. Thanks very much. I will let you know if I spot any other problems but that's probably unlikely because your work is superb. Russ London (talk) 13:35, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
Coat of Arms request[edit]
Hello @Cakelot1:
Hope you are doing great. Sorry to bother you, but I request you to please create a SVG version of the Coat of Arms used by the East India Company between 1600-1709. There are already vectorised version of the images but they are not accurate. Following material may help you -
Waiting for your reply. Thankyou in advance....

- Hey @Cookersweet: , Do you mind pointing out where you think File:East India Company Coat of Arms (1600-1709).svg for example goes wrong. It seems to conform to the given blazon. Cakelot1 (talk) 13:07, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Cookersweet, Here's an emblazonment I have made, in the sodacan style, based of the given blazon, but it is identical heraldically to File:East India Company Coat of Arms (1600-1709).svg and File:East India Company arms 1600-1709.svg, because again I don't see anything wrong with these depictions. Farmer meme[edit]
Hi, could you re-recreate this image but with an apostrophe in AINT, so "AIN'T"? I've never been able to do text outlines in GIMP, and I thought you might have a project file. --Veikk0.ma (talk) 00:58, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Sure. Just quickly added apostrophe and uploaded at File:Farmer meme with apostrophe.jpg
- Many thanks! I think it could've replaced the original since it was just a typo. In any case, I made my own meme based on your file and created a category for this meme. Veikk0.ma (talk) 23:27, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
The source is YouTube, so shouldn't we just mark the license?[edit]
Just because it's a YouTube license, all files must be included in the deletion list I think this is too much. Someone might repost a file that contains the same sound source like me. YouTube licenses and sources are not lacking, and the contrasting content of National Anthem is not just copyright. Then, all files that apply to some of the permission posted by the other party must be deleted I think that's what I'm saying. --Vichycombo (talk) 18:53, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Differentiation and responsibility for information provided[edit]
We're considering an internal situation that's limited to Wikipedia. I once provided a National Anthem video of the country where YouTube links were hung on Namuwiki, and now there are some that are still left rather than erased. But what's the difference between sending an e-mail to OTRS and resolving it after looking at foreigners? I can't be interested in mail at all. And this is an internal problem with YouTube and Wikipedia, not just judging licenses and licenses and deleting them unconditionally. Then it's like saying that it doesn't matter if I promote the files that are licensed as if they're not part of it and submit them to the deletion request.
Anyway, I can't take responsibility. This is uploading based on the contents of the video, so it doesn't matter if you put in a YouTube license and source, let alone a license and permission to use it. Did you understand this? Even if I'm a copyright holder, it's only natural that I'm not responsible. I'm a separatist who has nothing to do with this.
I want you to know that deleting everything, whether it's a license or license verification, depends on the person's decision, and it doesn't matter if you delete it. Songs and music can be uploaded on YouTube. Even if it's not me, someone else might upload something similar like me, including a license. I want you to know that. Anyway, you know that I'm not responsible for personal things. I'm telling you that I uploaded it for commercial purposes only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vichycombo (talk • contribs) 19:12, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. --Vichycombo (talk) 19:04, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Vichycombo, You'll have to forgive me if I haven't quite understood everything you said, it was a little confusing to me. Everything on commons must be free licenced (Commons:Licensing). It's normaly the case that everything you find on the internet is copyrighted by someone (if it's not from before about the 1920s) and can only be used if marked as such. Copyright doesn't stop because it's an important file or you using it "non-commercially". At best you might use it under Fair-use, but "Fair use" media files are not allowed on Wikimedia Commons (Commons:Fair use)
- You marked many of the files you uploaded with Template:YouTube CC-BY but none of the videos in the sources are marked as such. Additionally, it's very unlikely that the video uploaders are the copyright owners, as most of them sound like they are recorded by orchestras, who would own the copyright.
- Some Examples might help:
- Ok Ben Selvin's Novelty Orchestra I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles 1919 - published and written before January 1, 1923, in the United States and thus public domain.
- Ok Beethoven, Moonlight Sonata by Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio - Original compassion in the public domain and released under YouTube's CC licence by the original copyright owner (note the text under the description)
- Not Ok Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata (FULL) by andrea romano While the original composition is in the public domain this recording is copyrighted by the player/recorder
- If you can't assure that it's free to use than it needs to be deleted. I note you've removed the request for a permission without actually providing it, and I must ask you to revert this other wise your likely to be banned for copyright infringement which commons take very seriously. Cakelot1 (talk) 19:44, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- Vichycombo I've requested that an experienced admin have a look at the situation here User talk:Yann#Files by Vichycombo. Cakelot1 (talk) 20:02, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open![edit]
Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on 1 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
You are receiving this message because you voted in the 2021 Picture of the Year contest.

Autopatrol given[edit]
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. GPSLeo (talk) 19:00, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Edit Summary[edit]
When editing a page on Commons there is a small field labeled "Edit Summary" or "Summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the Edit Summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the Edit Summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's name in the Edit Summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. - @Jeff G., I'm sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but is there a specific edit your thinking of here. I couldn't see anything in my recent contributes, that jumps out to me as either not self explanatory (adding description fields and tags to files I've uploaded) or adding/removing cats using Cat-a-lot.
