Mass deletion request[edit]

Hi Jeff G., Happy New Year! I spotted many, almost the same or controversial, maps about 9th(-11th) century Serbia. While trying to verify their accuracy in the sources it became evident all of them are of suspicious or blatantly unscientific sourcing, scientifically outdated, fringe or fantastic, many of them being derivatives/duplicates/redundant of the same original file/idea (partly also original research and synthesis), some possible copyright violations for the background and so on. Some of them aren't used on any Wikipedia. Ultimately they don't have educational purpose because are misleading (some totally wrong), actually, out of them would keep one file which is directly based on a reliably sourced map (as an example of exaggerated borders, presumably the file could be placed at en:Časlav of Serbia#State borders, but where's already more accurate map). For the topic already exist much better and accurate maps on Commons. Can you tell me whether I've correctly made the mass deletion request? What would be your opinion about it? All the best! @Miki Filigranski: It appears that you did, people are discussing.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 23:21, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, Could you please review the license of this file? Thanks, Yann (talk) 23:14, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Descriptions[edit]

Hello Jeff, since no corner of commons seems unknown to you , I would like to put the following questions forward to you.

  1. Is there some place where thoughts about description of files is discussed right now?
  2. example. As you will notice from the history, in an effort to get as much information as possible on the description of the file, both George E. Koronaios and myself are trying to figure out what is the best way to proceed. I thought, maybe the layout (like I did, trying to come as close as possible to the original spelling in combination with the description in nowadays English, like George did, would be ideal. Only, how to proceed to have them both on the same page, without having too many information? Or does thee TLDNR does not apply for these kind of edits? Thank you so much for your time Jeff. Lotje (talk) 05:58, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Lotje: Evidently, the original text suffers from a common feature of English language documents of the time, the Long s, which was not compensated for in the machine transcription. I prefer what you did (except the newlines, which confuse the diff engine); you could just refer to the Internet Archive version, the Flickr version, or the upload diff for the original.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:12, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Copyright violations[edit]

Hello, @Jeff G., I would like to make it clear at this point that I cannot be held responsible for all the copyright infringements committed, because in the cases in question it is always a matter of shortcuts of files that other users had uploaded and were later deleted cause of Copyright violation. You will see this if you look into the summaries of the files and find all the time that it's a link to an uploaded wikimedia file by other users.

@Shark1989z: Each Commons uploader is responsible for what they upload, and for providing evidence of permission from the copyright holder, source, and author name. For files you upload, that means you are responsible, no one else. You have been warned. Crop at your own risk. Copyright belongs to the photographer, not the subject. Also, please confine yourself to internal links wherever possible.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:46, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Good, thank you, unfortunately the process is so complicated and sometimes cause of language barrier nearly inscrutable that these faults happens. In future I will look very careful of the details. Kind regards Shark1989z (talk) 14:03, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Shark1989z: What are your language proficiencies? Are you one of the dancers?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 02:58, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help needed for filing SPI[edit]

Hi, I am much more active on the English Wikipedia, where I have filed plenty of SPIs, but it appears that here the way they are started is technically different, so I might have messed up big time when filing Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/TCfanssos, because it has not been transcluded on Commons:Requests for checkuser properly. Could you help me redo the report, because I'm not sure what I have done wrong? Thank you, Aintabli (talk) 18:24, 13 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Aintabli: You signed the rfcu box and you left the noinclude at the top. I fixed those in these edits and purged Commons:Requests for checkuser, so now your report shows up. Next time, please make a new section on top with a header like Commons:Requests for checkuser/Inputbox/Header and a body like Commons:Requests for checkuser/Inputbox/Sample above noinclude (if any).   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:27, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you! Appreciate your help. Aintabli (talk) 15:24, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Aintabli: You're welcome.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:48, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help[edit]

H @Jeff G.. I hope you are doing well. Since you are a template editor, you might have a better idea: ur-5, and kas-n, when used in the babel box, produce fine results as can be seen from this archive of my userpage. However, when used as User ur-5, and User kas-n, I only get redlinks. Any ideas why this happens? ─ The Aafī (talk) 19:32, 13 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@TheAafi: Hi, and congratulations on the promotion! If you look at special:prefixindex/template:user ur and special:prefixindex/template:user ks, you will find a lack of the templates you seek, although you may make them (or copy them from other projects). Urdu only goes up to level 4 here (template:user ur seems to be native), and ks has no levels here. It seems that the babel module does not use them per se.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:08, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Jeff G., thanks, I was wondering what was making both of these work previously. I will take a look to find what source was the text coming from, or create the templates. ─ The Aafī (talk) 11:26, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
