Description

Pleurotus eryngii (DC.) Gillet

Pleurotus eryngii, Tricholomatace, Agaricales

White big mushroom is on rich soil in steppe. Cap: 8-25cm wide, thick convex or gently convex and margin curved in up to almost flat when old, white up to yellowish-white, odor weak and pleasant, in dry time sometimes cracked and it looks scaly. Flesh is white, yellowish-white when old, white after boiling. Gills: descending stalk (attached for old), narrow minor moderate when old, close, white, and then yellowish-white or dull cream-white. Stalk: 3-7cm long, 1.5-3.5cm thick, white, then yellowish-white. Edibility: good and tasty. Habitat: scattered small groups or abundant (after strong rain) on rich soil with Elytrígia grass (Agropyrum Gärtn) and small bushes nearby (Caragana frutex (L.) C.KOCH.) In published articles it is marked that this mushroom is connected with Umbellíferae plants, but these plants often absent or more 50m away. Only location of this kind was under poplar trees in 1992-1998 in Karaganda Central Park. Published in internet photos are often similar with Calocybe gambosa. Season: May – June, rarely July. This kind scattered in area: 50.0-50.8°"N”, 72.5-74.0°"E”
