Description

Climacodon pulcherrimus (Berk. & M.A. Curtis) Nikol.

Image location: Colonel Island Forest, Semey town, East Kazakhstan District, Kazakhstan

Climacodon pulcherrimus Hydnaceae, Aphyllophorales. (Климакодон красивейший).

Whitish soft thick mass with velvety surface. Mushroom: 8-16cm wide and 3-6cm high, semispherical or convex mass, sometimes rounded irregular-shaped and bumpy, yellowish- or pinkish-white, cream-white with velvety semitransparent surface darkening after bruising. Very young mushroom looks as fresh building foam, later stiff and hairy. Habitat: rare kind, single or crowded overlapped cluster in old well-shadowed maple and white poplar forest. It grows on old partially rotten stumps or trunks. Edibility: no data. Season: June-August (after rains).
