Blonde Woman on Beach[edit]
No, I did not delete it just to not become inactive again. Please. I deleted it for the following reasons (note that they are not in order of importance, but in the order of the thought process that led to my decision)
- It was coming up in Google image results for the word "beach" and "book" (go figure)
- It represented a woman which was, unlike for example this picture (for the record, it's the same woman, except you can't recognize her), very recognizable (ie. woman facing the camera, resolution high enough that you could actually recognize her in the street) which given the nature of the picture, could be a liability. I don't think that a disclaimer "Personality rights warning", which makes sense on celeb photos, or potentially controversial photos of educational value, actually cuts it.
- I don't know if the licence on Flickr hasn't changed, the availibility of the picture has changed ie. it's now in a private album, which suggest that the previous point might actually be an issue (but granted, this could me my interpretation). This, however, means that the author, the fact that the subject of the picture consented to this picture being made public etc. can't be ascertained at all.
- It isn't used in _any_ of the Wikimedia projects in the article space (none, nib, nada) and it was only used on one subpage of the person who uploaded it.
Call this a judgement call, which you may not agree with. My main reason, is that this is the picture of a random woman, which is highly recognizable, and which will probably not be used ever in any of the projects for exactly that reason. As such, I do not see any value to this picture being on Commons, unless we believe that holiday pictures are allowed here and that liability is the way to go. There's a limit to free should stay free ;) But hey, you think it should stay, well, your call. Cheers notafish }<';> 20:46, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, ok then sorry, I thought "Strong image rights enforcement" was regarding the copyright. I'll nominate it for deletion (it'd interpret the fact that it's now private the same way).--DieBuche (talk) 20:56, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Moved file[edit]
It is not apparent to me why you moved File:Cuicocha crater lake, Ecuador-5Jan2010.jpg to File:Quilotoa crater lake, Ecuador, Jan 2010.jpg. I do not understand your edit summary, which said; " correct place". I would be grateful if you would explain this move. Snowmanradio (talk) 21:14, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Apparently it's the "Quilotoa" one (Is in the same category, Category:Quilotoa and description says so as well). Or is it just another spelling? Also compare with other pics of that crater, for example File:Imagenes 014.jpg, it's the same mountain chain--DieBuche (talk) 21:17, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- I see. I think that is correct. I should have looked at it better. Thank you for renaming it. Snowmanradio (talk) 08:47, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Zerbrochen[edit]
--DieBuche (talk) 23:51, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

For this image, could you still add the "unneeded OTRS" please? If you'll notice, the Flickr image was added there after the image was uploaded and tagged NPD here. And it's the only image uploaded by the account there. Thanks. Wknight94 talk 16:08, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
AbuseFilter #70[edit]
User:Diego Grez tested the script for me on a test page and is now disallowed to review. Is this permanent, or does he need to become a reviewer to have the privileges again? Can he be re-allowed? [2] Thanks, ZooFari 16:44, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- He was never granted the right, see Commons_talk:Flickr_images/reviewers/archive_8#User:Diego_Grez. I could exclude Test.svg though--DieBuche (talk) 16:52, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- I feel this filter is too restrictive. Sometimes flickrreview tag get removed by accident (or by buggy script), and there is nothing wrong to move it back by any user. Trycatch (talk) 17:07, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm aware that he was not promoted to reviewer, but I felt it was safe for him to test the script for me on a test page. My cache fails to clear and Diego is usually the only one available for my favors. If you could exclude the test page, that would be nice. Since I do not know the nature of AbuseFilter, I question whether Diego will be permanently restricted to perform a review action again, even if he becomes a reviewer in the future. Hi, I saw you deleted this image with reason starboxoffice.com. For some reason I had this image on my watchlist (don't know why anymore). Could you expand a bit on your reason, just starboxoffice.com really is not much info. From what I remember of this image it was ok. Garion96 (talk) 19:01, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- It was a cropped version of the file at bollywoodFM, and the original bollywoodfm picture featured a staroffice watermark, their files are not free. (see http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/celebrities/images/10690/still57146.html )--DieBuche (talk) 19:40, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Dear friend
This redir is 100% unnecessary and no links. No links! --Starscream (talk) 02:58, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Dear Admin DieBuche,
I'm afraid that this image must be deleted. It is strange that the DR has been here for 3 weeks now and no one has noticed it even though the uploader agreed with Bureaucrat Zelenko's DR. There is no FOP in Russia for this modern sculpture. Luckily I'm from Canada. Even the US does not allow this sadly. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:41, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Image File:Maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais, underside 01.jpg, which you uploaded, is not tagged with a license template. Could you please review it and add the appropriate license? It seems that the previous, smaller size image was tagged with {{Cc-by-3.0}}. SV1XV (talk) 14:48, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Renaming of File:Flag of New Caledonia.svg[edit]
The flag File:Kanak flag.svg has been renamed but i think it's a little bit hasty because this flag is not the unique flag of New-Caledonia and the French gouvernment has only decided that, on public building, it should be hoist with the french flag.
So that, the only label which is right is File:Kanak flag.svg and we can't consider that it is the flag of the territory -- Xfigpower (pssst) 16:18, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

I can't understand why you think this isn't the Flickr user works, Vickie Shan is a well-known Second Life illustrator (she even has a wiki article here) and we have four other images she's created on WMC. Image not uploading[edit]
Hi. OTRS got another letter about File:Diegojourdan1.jpg; it doesn't seem to be loading properly. It doesn't show at en:Diego Jourdan, and it doesn't load here. Just in case it was only my problem, I asked at the English Wikipedia help desk and another contributor confirmed it's not loading. Since you uploaded the lasat version, I thought I'd ask if you might have any idea what the problem may be? (P.S. Another contributor adds that this may be a more widescale issue, so it might not be with this image specifically.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:30, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- Apparently the image engine was updated and now a lot of thumbnails don't work anymore. afaik we can't really do anything, but i'm sure the developers are looking into it...--DieBuche (talk) 14:29, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks much. If it's not a problem with that one issue, then I'll just write the subject and tell him there's a system glitch that will be worked out. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:33, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Frage[edit]
lg Hekerui (talk) 18:04, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
LiquidThreads at VP[edit]
automatically created descriptions ...[edit]
suck! There is not a single one that can be left the way the bot has done it, I would have to clean up every single edit the bot is doing to my pictures. Let's take a look at your bot's edits in the run you're doing right now:
- File:Altdöbern Eingangstor Schloss.jpg: "Français : Portail du château." ==> cool, it's the front gate of a castle!!! Well, where is this castle?
- File:Altdöbern Rathaus.jpg: "Deutsch: Rathaus." ==> Wow, that's a town hall!!!! Well, which city?
- File:Altdöbern Schloss Rückseite.jpg "Deutsch: Rückseite des Schlosses. Français : Corps de bâtiment néorenaissance." ==> Wow, it's the back side of a (neorenaissance) castle? Well, there are millions of castles, where is this one?
- File:Altdöbern Schlosspark 3.JPG: "Deutsch: Schlossanlage. Français : Fontaine du parc." ==> Cool, this fountain belongs to palace grounds!! But where??
- File:Altpieschen.jpg: "Deutsch: Altpieschen." ==> Well, not really your fault: There already is a description, but outside of the info template. Anyways, where is Altpieschen? At least I would have added that it's part of Dresden today.
- File:Berbisdorf Kirche 2.jpg: "Deutsch: Kirche." ==> Wow, it's a church!!!! What a surprise! Where is it?
- File:Berbisdorf Schloss 2.jpg: "Deutsch: Wasserschloss." ==> That's a moated castle, really? Where?
- File:Bärnsdorf 1.JPG: "Deutsch: Blick über den Dorfteich." ==> Could be anywhere. How does it help me to know that this is a pond?
Well, I could go on like that forever but I hope you got it: In articles you don't put the city name in every single picture description which makes it a bad idea to copy those descriptions to Commons. It's not really helpful to know that the picture shows a town hall or a church or a castle or whatever if you don't even have an idea in which country or which city that building is. So please stop those bot runs. As far as I can tell from the edits that I checked, there's not a single edit of the bot that doesn't need cleanup. If you offer to check every single edit done by your bot, you can leave it running. Otherwise please stop it. Some good examples from last run? Here you are: if a pic is used three times, just add all three description and from all of those one can hopefully guess what the picture shows, same, same, with completely different contexts, including user talk is probably not a good idea, same, and again this question: where the heck is this?, "Le train sur le lift" Great!!! Which train? Where????, [...] Please stop it. --X-Weinzar (talk) 23:44, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

One click duplicate remover template?[edit]
After your great work streamlining rename request template, I was wondering if you'd like to take on duplicates? --99of9 (talk) 13:22, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- I thought about that as well, but stopped for the following reason: In opposite to the rename process, where you only need to make sure that the title is ok, the duplicate deletion involves comparing the files, completing/merging the info templates, sometimes even resolving contradictory license information. Since it should be carefully checked, I don't think a "one-click-solution" would be the best idea here, it might lead to people using it without checking the files properly first.--DieBuche (talk) 14:24, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- Despite those issues, I personally still think it would be a net benefit. But one smaller thing that would help is a single click to create the final redirect. At the moment there's a link which opens it up for editing, but it could autofill the created file with #REDIRECT ... --99of9 (talk) 02:55, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

What is this pages for? Are we supposed to (gradually) feed them into the current logs or does the page serve as a log of it's own and we should process the requests from there? Or is this just something for a bot to use? Rocket000 (talk) 22:39, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- These are ones, which are complete DR, but are not embedded on active Logs, so they can/should be added to the daily log in smaller batches. I just updated the page. Sorry for that js trouble I caused, using collapsible divs was basically what I thought, but we need to import jQuery from common.js for it to work in monobook etc. mw 1.17 should btw bring jQuery to all styles--DieBuche (talk) 07:26, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. What do we do with the closed ones? Try to put them in the archives according to their date or just list them in the current log and allow DRbot to archive them properly (much less work)? Luckily, thanks to caching, we usually have somewhat of a grace period to revert breaking changes before most people notice. I hope we can replace the NavFrame script and use your new one instead for all skins. The collapse feature in {{Delete}} works great, but is only available to vector users. Rocket000 (talk) 21:11, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
- The closed ones are RfD which have been closed, but the files still have the {{Delete}} tag on it. Regarding the NavFrame: jQuery is now also accesible for Monobook, but I'll have to wait a bit with changing the template (cache etc.)--DieBuche (talk) 18:23, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Tool for "Categories for discussion"[edit]
I thought you did a great job with the new "Nominate for deletion" tool, and was wondering if you would like to do something similar for the "Commons:Categories for discussion" procedure? - It seems to me that the "Nominate for deletion" link is new in that namespace and I'm not sure if it should be available there. If it is maybe it should add deletion tags to all media in the category. Docu at 16:03, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

- Nice. Just one step seems to be missing: it doesn't notify the category creator (e.g. Wst for Tests). There also few minor things: parts still use the terminology from DR: edit summary on the subpage that is being created (currently "Starting deletion request"), screen message when doing stuff ("adding nominating page to the daily discussion page"). The edit on Category:Tests shouldn't be marked minor. Docu at 15:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Query[edit]
Hi DieBuche, Thanks for your message re: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Leicester17.
I've struggled with this copyright issue before and I don't know how to solve it. I am the sole copyright owner of this image: File:Rob_and_Leo_Politi.JPG to OTRS It's only been published on wikipedia commons. How do I provide evidence of my authorization to use a image in my family's possession for more than 70 years?
- Answered on your talk--DieBuche (talk) 18:23, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Much thanks! Leicester17 (talk) 14:38, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Re:OTRS[edit]
Thanks for the offering, but at this time I have a lot of work in "real life" (you can notice that I'm not doing a lot of administrative actions here in Commons) so I have no time for more responsibilities in Wikimedia. Best regards, Alpertron (talk) 11:46, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
- Something similar happens to me, almost all of my spare time is spent on administrative tasks in two projects, so I would not be able to assume such a time consuming work for now. Regards. Anna (Cookie) (talk) 20:25, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Identical images in under two tickets?[edit]
Can you do me a favour and compare the OTRS tickets behind a pair of images? The first is File:Panamericana poster.jpg and the other is File:Panamericana Poster.jpg. Tabercil (talk) 13:28, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- One was FAL, the other CC-by; I merged the two tickets & deleted the first image. --DieBuche (talk) 15:37, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Neil Young[edit]
Re this: CC-by-SA 1.0, 2.0. 3.0, etc. are all legally different licenses. Saying "CC-by-SA" without a version number is not enough information. If the specific version isn't specified, we shouldn't be choosing a version. Эlcobbola talk 15:46, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- Weird, maybe I forgot to save. Before there was a version 2 and 3 there was just cc-by-sa. We really shouldn't delete files just because they use an older naming scheme. Following that logic the following 9500 files from Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Cc-by-sa need to be deleted as well.
- Nonsense. This ticket originated in 2010, when several versions existed. {{CC-by-SA}}, a redirect (as it always has been), is from 2005 when there was only one version. Those 9,500 are utterly irrelevant, as they may a) pre-date newer CC versions or b) have been licensed directly by the uploaders (i.e. for self-made files, the authors) themselves who could have thus seen the 1.0 in the preview and/or resulting upload. Эlcobbola talk 13:23, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
"Rename" tool[edit]
Your "rename" tool is great, but it can only be used if someone has placed a {{Rename}} tag on a file. Would it be possible to create a version of the tool that appears in the Toolbox on the left side of the screen (like "Nominate for deletion") so that authorized renamers like me can use it to rename files even if the {{Rename}} tag has not been used? Thanks. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 18:29, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- Should be working now. It's in the dropdown bar, called "Rename & Replace"--DieBuche (talk) 11:52, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, how do you know that images are Flickr washing? I'm not sure of that. Regards.--HCPUNXKID (talk) 18:25, 11 September 2010 (UTC) I'm sure that photo aint a Flickr washing, it also has the same license as File:Aminatouhaidar.jpg, from the same Flickr user. File:Flavia Solva Kreuzung.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
--Pieter Kuiper (talk) 16:33, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi, regarding the deletion/pixellation of this image, I have uploaded a pixellated version. You'll find the address in the note attached to the ticket. As to whether the image ought to be deleted or pixellated, I have stated my view in the deletion discussion. However, I would urge that this matter finds a speedy resolution, since it's obviously most important to the person(s) involved.
(If you want, I'll redirect the links from the various Wikipedia pages if the new image is substituted.) Asav (talk) 02:30, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Isn't this Nazi poster a copyright violation or not? What do you think? Thank you, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:26, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- No, I'd say its not: The Federal Republic of Germany was generally agnolished as a legal successor of the Third Reich, so assuming it was a governmenatl work (looks like it), it would have retrospectively have become Public domain.--DieBuche (talk) 11:52, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- OK. I'll remove the speedy delete tag on it then. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:30, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Problem renaming "File:Therme Vals Hotel Hauptgebäude.jpg"[edit]
I seem to be having a problem renaming "File:Therme Vals Hotel Hauptgebäude.jpg" as "File:Therme Vals - main building of hotel complex, Vals, Graubünden, Switzerland - 20090809.jpg" using AjaxQuickDelete. It keeps stopping with an error. I also tried a manual move but got an error message stating that the move had been blocked by the abuse filter. Any idea why? I see you were able to rename "File:Therme Vals Aussenfassade.jpg" – how did you do that? I was unable to. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 18:13, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- You got caught by Special:AbuseFilter/11 Docu at 18:24, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- I "may not view details of this filter, because it is hidden from public view". So what can be done about such false positives? I've left a message at "Commons:Abuse filter" – is that enough? — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 18:40, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- I can't see the details either, but an admin (e.g. DieBuche) should modify it to not apply it to the user group "filemovers". Docu at 18:46, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Category description creation gadget?[edit]
Hi DieBuche,
Not that I use these tools that frequently, but the new javascript versions of the DR/CFD links are quite amazing. I was wondering if you might be interest in doing one that fills category description pages. Similarly to the "People" link on new category pages (e.g. click on Category:John Test Doe), it would start the category description page with an interwiki to en.WP and all interwikis from there. In addition, it could copy the categories from there (if they exist on Commons). Pasting them with subst and ifexist can get around checking each separately, but would make a preview less readable. Some variation would be needed depending on the type of category. Docu at 12:41, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
File:Byzantine Empire in 600.png[edit]
Hello! Could you explain what you mean by "no copyright on information/data"? I have interacted with several admins and editors both here and in the English WP for my own maps & designs, and I was under the impression that when using a single copyrighted pictorial source and copying it (almost) entirely, it counted as copyright violation, let alone when claiming it as self-made.
UAE Pics[edit]
Hi, erinnerst du dich and diese Diskussion? --Nepenthes (talk) 05:26, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
