- gez. Keep in mind there is other templates that are used in conjunction with this template, see: File:Amanita_bisporigera_59865.jpg. The templates are: Template:MushroomObserverMoreInfo, and Template:MushroomObserverUser. If your going to change the color/style of the source template, consider making all 3 congruent with the design. Not sure that the new colors are any less obtrusive then the old ones though, would like your reasoning for changing it. — raeky (talk | edits) 16:50, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Note I like the mushroom image you picked better though. Would probably need to create a mushroom person icon too for the other template.. i'll do that. — raeky (talk | edits) 16:52, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I took the liberty of switching the style as well as creating a new image for the user template.... — raeky (talk | edits) 17:03, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I made my own, though. — raeky (talk | edits) 17:05, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Although yours would be fine too, I'm partial to both. Your's is still SVG, but my little man I used was a .png so I had to convert. — raeky (talk | edits) 17:07, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
To the color changes: The default skin for new & anon users, vector, has mostly less saturated, pastel colors. The old cyan had a pretty high saturation, so I reduced that a bit to fit the rest of the UI better. --DieBuche (talk) 17:09, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fair enough, the colors are fine. ;-) — raeky (talk | edits) 17:11, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
(editconflict) Your image doesn't render the same as the server rendered the plain mushroom. Illustrator did not like that .svg either, it went nuts. So i just used a pre-rendered png from the server to make my png. I'll switch back to mine, to keep the mushroom's look the same. — raeky (talk | edits) 17:11, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah thanks, that white border got missing somehow. fixed. I actually started using Inkscape most of the time. Editing in illustrator is much more comfortable, but it's svg handling is just to unstable.--DieBuche (talk) 17:20, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Cool, i switched back. And I do agree Illustrator does not render SVG most of the time correctly. — raeky (talk | edits) 17:43, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You asked why these two files should be deleted when their supposed replacements were less detailed:

The reason for their deletion request is that they are in fact counterfeit maps and full of unexplained detail including errors which extent to extreme exaggerations in the former map. They have been recognized as such throughout several wikis and have been removed from pages and replaced by more concise and accurate maps as a result. I hope that clarifies your question. Please delete them at your earliest possibility as they have not been challenged and in fact agreed upon by two others, the nominator, myself and another user, all of which are in favour of removal. Problem with the Delinker?[edit]

Das passiert leider in letzter Zeit häufig; ich hab a k.a. was das eig.
Grüße --DieBuche (talk) 22:31, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There's not much really; The renderer is known to be very buggy, and progress has been slow. Only thing you can do for now is uploading a raster image & link to the original svg as source--DieBuche (talk) 10:38, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
File:Order of Brazil.svg
I have uploaded this version and the problem seems to be the gradient of some elements. Could you add the gradients and try to upload a valid file? Best regards; Felipe Menegaz 20:50, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi. I was just wondering what the upload to the above image was meant to do. "Trying to fix SVG using scour" doesn't explain much and there is no visible differences in the image. /Lokal_Profil 23:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Also not sure why it was considered broken. /Lokal_Profil 23:14, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
At the time of the check (around 26th of june) the image didn't render 120px thumbnails, so it got flagged as "broken" (see the gallery below for examples). I'm not sure what was the cause for that, but the server did return a 500 "Internal server error". The bot mainly removes xlink:href to non-existing external images, and replaces flowtext with normal text, the two most commons sources of breakage at commons--DieBuche (talk) 10:36, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bad bot SVG fix[edit]

Hi, I've just found out that the DieBucheBot "fixing" to file:Moscow metro map zh-hant sb.svg does not turn out to be favorable. The bot revision alterned the station node design as the previous SVG coding was done deliberately for that effect. As I've tested, this is caused by the fact that your bot removed the attributes which is defined "NONE". (in this case the pathes whose stroke was defined "NONE".) However most SVG renderers have their default value of the attributes to be something else, so the "none" value is required in many cases for desired outcome. Please stop your bot before fixing this little issue. Thx. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 23:42, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

P.S. I've checked the w3.org/SVG and it says the default/initial value for stroke is "NONE". Unfortunately it's not the case for the SVG renderes of Wikimedia, Inkscape and Firefox. So even if the attribute is defined as the default value, it should be kept anyway, not removing it. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 23:47, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

At the time of the check (around 26th of june) the image didn't render 120px thumbnails and thus got flagged as "broken"; but in the mean time you had uploaded several new versions. I only try to fix badly broken svgs, which don't render at all, like those below. I'll change the code concerning the "none". Sorry for that.--DieBuche (talk) 10:28, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
These 4 SVG have nothing to do with me. Anyway thx for acknowledge the problem. Still I've encountered the similar problem which the SVG is unable to be rendered in some smaller dimension. In the case of file:Moscow metro map zh-hant sb.svg, it won't be rendered by , say >240px width. I suspect that it is caused by the Chinese font as the Russian version can be rendered correctly in whatever size. But I'm not sure because the SVG renderer installed in Wikimedia is far from perfect. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 11:22, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Your suspicions is true; try to set font-family="AR PL UKai HK" for any font or tspan element in the file, this should hopefully fix it--DieBuche (talk) 11:36, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Doesn't work either. Dunno what else there is--DieBuche (talk) 11:40, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

File:Anna_Timiriova_1954.jpg - Antwort[edit]

Afil (talk) 01:12, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Descriptive filenames[edit]

Hi DieBuche and thanks for your comments. Yes, I usually change uppercase file extensions into lowercase, except when an image is part of a series of which all files have uppercase file extensions but only one is to be renamed. And well, in some cases I may just overlook that detail because when I rename a file, I also put a lot of work into standardizing the file information.

When I change file names that are listed on the backlog, I usually exactly follow the wish of the user who requested the move, regardless whether I find it the best name or not. When I requested file moves myself, I put a lot of thinking into coining new names or names that fitted into a series. I therefore did not like it at all when other users did not follow my wishes. I normally expect the user who requests the file move to have done the same as I did and I seldom can find any good reason to not follow that wish.

The file of the German loc had the problem of being very very long and starting with the least important information: it was a picture of an eloc, the location where the picture was taken comes in second place. The name however was "Wormser_Hauptbahnhof-_auf_Bahnsteig_zu_Gleis_5-_Richtung_Mainz_(DBAG_Elektrolokomotive_155_040-9)_26.6.2009.JPG". I think I overdid a bit when I shortened that name but I will go back to the file and add "Elektrolokomotive" to the name as I see you have a good point there. - Wikiklaas (talk) 17:00, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think of series, but your're right, this is a case where the uppercase extension should be kept.--DieBuche (talk) 19:00, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Unacceptable[edit]

Hi DieBuche, I consider it unacceptable that you blocked me simply because I have not added "descriptions" to my images. I added a category and the PD license information, and that is all that is required. I actually upload my images using the Commonist and then edit the description pages after the uploads have finished.

I suggest you brush up on the Commons:Blocking policy because your rationale for the block was not to policy and thus unacceptable. OSX (talkcontributions) 08:31, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I did it exactly because I realized that you were using an automated tool, and thus might not be near and able to respond on your talk. Actually a source is required as well, but I'm totally fine with you adding that afterwords.--DieBuche (talk) 08:35, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fact is it isn't ok! You didn't even comment (even if he is using an automated script/bot) on the talk page about the issue but rather blocked OSX then commented. Bidgee (talk) 09:21, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It looks like a bot gone wrong. These shouldn't run under a non-bot account in the first place.  Docu  at 09:26, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OSX has stated they are using Commonist. All the files are missing is the description and the author but OSX is a trusted contributor and the files are clearly theirs. Bidgee (talk) 09:29, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So we can expected a bug report on Commons talk:Tools/Commonist?  Docu  at 09:32, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We are talking about the block not the suspected bug. Bidgee (talk) 09:34, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The block was perfectly okay. If an automated tool does lots of edits who require correction afterwards, a 5 minutes (!) block in order to stop the script is exactly the way of dealing with the issue correctly: It causes no harm and it stops the script. abf «Cabale!» 10:10, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OSX's uploads are not harming anyone, it isn't like if only the image is uploading or just the summary. DieBuche should have commented rather then block without reason, doing so risks on losing a valuable contributor. Bidgee (talk) 10:14, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Commenting on his talk would have done it as well, but he might not have noticed that immediately. Some of OSX upload feature an information template which is empty, except for the date. Since I could not know whether they had noticed that the commonist was uploading the files in that state, i blocked them to spare them or other contributors, to have to repetitively go through the uploads and add the info to all of them. I didn't realize OSX would take the block that personal, since it was only aimed at making commonist throw an error, so that OSX could check the settings again. OSX, I'm sorry if I upset you, the block was not any indication of me doubting the value or ownership of the picture, but merely the quickest way to inform you about a bug. --DieBuche (talk) 10:42, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You never did try commenting so assuming he wouldn't notice is your opinion, but if he didn't respond it wouldn't look as bad as it does now. Looking back at the comment you made after the block on OSX's talk page, you said nothing about a script nor a bot in the comment. Fact is the only reason you gave was "you seem to have forgetten to fill your information templates when uploading", last time I looked it wasn't a blockable offence someone forgets to fill in the information templates. Also you never gave a reason for the block, so I don't blame OSX for being offended with the block. Bidgee (talk) 13:50, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

(Indent reset) Lets not make a drama for a 5 minutes block. Sometimes, that is needed to get the time to look around, to make sure there are no massive errors and to force to read messages. Communication could probably be better, but communication is rarely perfect, certainly not in hindsight. --Foroa (talk) 14:47, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You are violating Commons' language policy (changing a file name to an English one).  Docu  at 14:05, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If people keep reverting it, then I let it go. By the way, [[3]] did not delink at all. This happens from time to time, and delinking does not work always and can have nasty side effects. --Foroa (talk) 06:03, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Even if the file is tagged for renaming incorrectly, file movers shouldn't force pl.wikipedia users to use an English name. Commons language policy aims to respect the uploader's choice.  Docu  at 08:51, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rename request denied[edit]

Greetings! You've denied my request to rename File:Viajes de colon en.svg to "Voyages of Christopher Columbus.svg". While I know very well that Commons does not favor any languages, I think that doesn't apply here. Renaming photos for example is totally unacceptable. But in this case where a map (or any illustration containing text) is translated and uploaded in a separate file it should be acceptable. That way there's no preference of one language above the other, because it's a translated version and the original is left intact. So, if we can translate the contents, why can't we do the same with the file name? That doesn't make sense to me. Regards, -- Orionisttalk 19:11, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If we have a set of images, we generally like them to have a common prefix, eg. Christopher Columbus.jpg - Christopher Columbus-cropped.jpg, Christopher Columbus-colorcorrected.jpg etc. Same for translations. It's easier to identify that the svgs belong to a similiar group if we name them Viajes de colon en.svg, Viajes de colon de.svg, Viajes de colon de.svg and not Voyages of Christopher Columbus.svg, Reisen des Christopher Columbus, Viaggi di Cristoforo Columbus.svg etc.--DieBuche (talk) 03:29, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's true, it is useful for identifying groups of similar images, which is helpful, especially for modified photos. However, there are other ways to do that: categories, galleries, and placing links to "other versions" in the description box. I think we have other things to take in consideration here. The main issue is that you have a file in your language named in another language. This makes it almost unsearchable, and maybe overlooked if found, especially if you're coming from outside Commons or Wikipedia.
For example: when searching for "Voyages of Christopher Columbus" in Google Images, the above file is no where to be found before the 16th page. On the other hand when you search for "Viajes de colon", it turns out in the second page, but it's the English version, which you will also find on page 3, 4, and 5 along with the Hebrew version, while the Spanish version does not show until page 6. So as you can see it could be confusing to users of both languages.
I know this file naming scheme might be a common practice in Commons, but it might not be optimal. I think it's a small problem that's easy to fix one file at a time. That's just my two cents! I hope I was clear, and if I came across as a bit too assertive, I apologize :) Regards, -- Orionisttalk 19:46, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I kind of agree with DieBuche -- optimizing search-engine results is not really a reason by itself to rename a file. And of course there are many different search engines out there, and they each change their algorithms from time to time, etc... AnonMoos (talk) 03:08, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image deleted[edit]

I received a message about File:Atlas larvae.jpg deletion, but I don't remember to have uploaded this file. Could you give me a copy of the deleted cronology and description page? thanks --Esculapio (talk) 21:01, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Don't ask me why IngerAlHaosului notified you. Uploaded by File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske), and only edited by IngerAlHaosului afterwords. You seem to have nothing to do with it. weird

You transfered the image to Commons from English Wikipedia. When I asked IngerAlHaosului if the image really was free IngerAlHaosului marked the image as unfree. I guess it was "the script" that decided to inform you.
I work on images transfered from English Wikipedia to Commons so that is how I found this image. --MGA73 (talk) 19:26, 17 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello DieBuche! Was looking for an admin and clicked you. If you get the time, could you look at Category talk:Hydroelectricity and share your views? It would be nice to hear from an admin's point of view. Don't worry, its not another conflict. :) Kind regards. Rehman(+) 09:18, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

FARC[edit]

I really appreciate when I find someone designed as "administrator" who doesn't actually "administrates" the situation, but instead start acting with disruptive attitude.

Considering your status and your – possible – knowledge, you should take the initiative to talk with a user who would – maybe – be acting wrongly.

Besides your arrogance, you just start reverting my editions, possibly instigating an edition war.

And worse: all of this with an obvious case of copyright violation, when you perfectly know other cases in Commons of Speed Deletion with the very same image and know that at least one project – WP:EN – considers this symbol Fair Use.

If you disagree with such strong evidences, as well as with the obvious case that this is the symbol of a private organization, you should use the talk page, instead of revert.

I may only consider this a clear case of personal involvement, upon which your sense of correctness may be dubious.

I just wonder why it is so easy to get the Administrator status. --Tonyjeff (talk) 02:02, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yep personal involvement, sure. You know allegating other guys that they belong to some terrorist organization isn't really loved to be seen. Additionally you may want to investigate the purpose of the edit summary, as I have clearly asked you multiple times to please start a normal Deletion Request.--DieBuche (talk) 08:39, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Was clicking that "Nominate for deletion" link really that much harder than writing a sermon?"--DieBuche (talk) 08:55, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No, you did not ask me multiple times, just left messages at the history of the file after reverting it. "Jurisprudence" in Commons gives reason to my insistence with Speed Deletion – and you have the burden of the counter-proof.
Put your arguments here (as indicated by SD instructions) is really that much harder than instigating an edition war???
And I have not said any-time that you "belong to some terrorist organization" – just said that you clearly have some personal involvement with the theme, what really injures your impartiality.
Anyway, I am really done of it – trying to observe rules in Commons and be treated like that. By the way, specially being an administrator, you should reply my messages at my discussion page. --Tonyjeff (talk) 02:20, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yep, that's called a "edit summary"; Nope, especially as an admin I should not dispense discussions on multiple pages, until no one can track them anymore. And for a page being one of 7,000 on my watchlist, this is no personal involvement--DieBuche (talk) 08:19, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

User rights issues[edit]

Thanks for approving my request for filemover. I'm confused, however: you assigned me the "file reviewer" right, and when I look at a random file, there's no "move" tab. Did I request the wrong thing, or is there some other sort of error? Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 00:02, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ops sorry, I clicked the wrong button. Corrected now--DieBuche (talk) 00:14, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks :-) No problem; as an en:wp admin, I've made plenty of admin errors myself. Nyttend (talk) 01:28, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, still missing: Moyambos 1943.jpg and Mauné Escamilla 1966.jpg

Hello, I think there is a mistake in the OTRS because the owner of copyright wrote the autorization for the file Maune Escamilla 1966.jpg instead of File Mauné Escamilla 1966.jpg which has an accent.Cameta (talk) 20:54, 31 July 2010 (UTC) Cameta (talk) 20:54, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Leerzeilen bei CDR-Unterseiten[edit]

Hallo DieBuche.

OTRS members' bot accounts[edit]

I was just looking at the abuse log and noticed a lot of "Adding OTRS permission by non-OTRS member". See [4]. Most of the hits are bots, at least some of which are owned by OTRS members (or doing it on behalf of OTRS members and are operated by a trusted user). I thought about changing the filter to ignore bots but that might miss some ones that should be monitored. Would it be a good idea to give the OTRS-member usergroup to bots whose sole operator is indeed a OTRS-member? Or maybe add certain bots like DieBucheBot directly to the filter? Can 'crats assign the OTRS-member usergroup? Rocket000 (talk) 01:01, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

sry for the quick rply. crats can't, only stewards, but we're gonna get that changed. Bots of OTRS members -> principally a good idea. Exclude all bots -> maybe not.--DieBuche (talk) 10:05, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

--Leyo 07:48, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

OTRS/Permission OTRS[edit]
