Incomplete deletion requests.
Hi, I noticed that you repeatly creating incomplete deletion requests like i.e. here. They ending up in Category:Incomplete deletion requests - missing subpage and/or Category:Deletion_requests_-_No_timestamp_given. To create complete deletion requests you have to:
- Visit the deletion requests subpage and place the following code: {{subst:delete2|image=File:Cinevid-logo.png|reason=we have a very similar file at File:Cinevid-main.png}} ~~~~
- Go to the deletion requests log and place the following code at the bottom: {{subst:delete3|pg=File:Cinevid-logo.png}}
- Notify the item's uploader or the creator of the page by placing the following code on the user's talk page: {{subst:idw|File:Cinevid-logo.png|}} ~~~~
- Additionally, you may want to check for Wikimedia projects that use this item and then remove or, if possible, replace with a superior item.
as describted when you click on the Click here for further instruction "button".
Iin the last days I completed a lot of your incomplete deletion requests.
The easiest way to ensure you don't forget a step is to enable the "quick delete" gadget within your preferences. Then all steps (except 4.) will be done automaticly when you click on "nominate for deletion" on the sitebar.
Could you try to complete your last imcomplete DRs yourself? regards. --JuTa 20:29, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hello and thanks for completing the many DRs in the past. I don't use JavaScript so doing all those steps manually is a huge hassle. Thanks for the clear and comprehensive instructions as well. Take care! Palosirkka (talk) 05:23, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, I just see you created other incomplete deletion requests. I think I will not complete them anymore like in the past, but will undo your edits when I will check the incomplete deletion requests next time. Again please: When you are raising a deletion request try to do that completely. Thx. --JuTa 21:02, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- User:JuTa... I think you undo action was borderline vandalism. Think of the best of the project please. It's OK if you don't complete my DRs. But don't undo them either. Again I tell you, I will not use JavaScript. You just undoed 32 DRs, if you want to see how much work it would be to do the complete 4 step process every time, go fill those requests manually for the 32 files, that is what you're requiring of me. Palosirkka (talk) 05:13, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- No one is forcing you to use JavaScript. However, you shouldn't just leave a mess for other people to clean up. You have two options: 1) Use JavaScript to complete DRs or 2) Fill out all the paperwork properly by hand. Killiondude (talk) 05:37, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

- I my opinion the real mess are the crappy images that should be deleted and now won't be. But since 3 (one more here) admins have said I'm wrong here, expect no more deletion requests from me. Palosirkka (talk) 13:40, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Deletion requests
If you'd like to send me the file names of pages you think are dubious, I'd be happy to take a look and see what can be done about them. Just leave a message on my talk page. I have several folks who can't use the various helpers who suggest "bad ones" to me and I take care of the rest. I'm sorry you don't use the Javascript helpers, they really are super useful! Cheers!! File:Gaymarriage.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Why did you ask for my file to be deleted? It was simply a screenshot. Other screenshots I've seen do not get removed. I do not see how I infringed copyright. --Emil Sayahi (talk) 16:36, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Project scope
Hi Palosirkka, please respect that Commons has a project scope and that contributed images must be realistically useful for an educational purpose. For this reason please give useful categories and useful descriptions to your images. So that every other user can find your images through their categories and can understand what you want to teach with the images through their descriptions. To meet the project scope please keep everything as educational as possible. Keep in mind that most people in the world do not know what is visible in your images and therefore urgently require understandable descriptions and categories made by you! Think twice before you upload images taken by other people whether or not you are able to provide useful descriptions and categories. Particularly note that images of unidentified objects at unidentified locations like File:Where's All The Gold?.jpg are not anyhow educational and therefore do NOT comply with the project scope! -- Ies (talk) 06:07, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Lieksan Vaskiviikon konsertti Mätäsvaaran kaivoslaguunilla.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Visual Studio screenshots and copyright
Can you please explain why you think that Visual Studio screenshots of my own program and own code are somehow subject to copyright?
- Hi BitBarrel! The screenshots are copyright violations because you're not the copyright holder of the proprietary software in question. Yes, you might own a copy but you can only use it but can't take screenshots of it. That's just the law. Copyright is an international mechanism that gives the copyright holder exclusive rights over the item, others can do very little with it. Palosirkka (talk) 13:23, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
OEIS A117825.jpg
This was marked by you for some reason. It violates nothing, as I state it is my own work.--Billymac00 (talk) 16:35, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Billymac00! Are you the copyright holder of the software in question, i.e. did you write that software? (I can't remember or see what it was anymore) If yes, then it's best to clearly indicate it. If you just purchased a copy of some proprietary software, then your screenshot was a copyvio, unless you have a separate permission for making one and in such a case the permission should be clearly indicated. Palosirkka (talk) 17:20, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- OEIS A117825 has a license line at the bottom, it boils down to File:Creative Commons "Non-Commercial" icon (SVG, nominal 64x64).svg, and as it happens this is how I ended up here five years ago (as former OEIS contributor). Unrelated, I stumbled over this debate while checking why somebody recreated an empty user page for you, but obviously you have no serious objections. Be..anyone (talk) 19:11, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Fabian tortoise 32w352523352.png
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Fabian tortoise 32w352523352.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Flickr uploads
When uploading images from Flickr you must always upload the highest resolution image that is know as the "original" and not a low resolution image as you did with File:Hard worker.jpg. Even better is to use the Flickr2Commons upload tool that takes care of all the important stuff and choose the best quality image. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 15:31, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Ww2censor and thanks for the suggestion. Sadly the tool requires JavaScript and I don't want to use such things, JS is a safety hazard. I also have a slow network uplink so I rather let the bot do the upload of the largest size image, e.g. [1] Have a nice 2018! --Palosirkka (talk) 12:26, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- It's a pity you have a slow connection but not everyone has great internet speed. Regarding JS, maybe the regular upload wizard, found by clicking the "Upload file" found on the left side of your screen does not use it but I'm not familiar with its technology. The problem is that the bot does not always replace a low resolution version with the highest one meaning that a file must be manually reviewed and the fewer we have to do the better. This was the case of the File:Hard worker.jpg I reviewed because the bot could not find the image at Flickr until it recognised the image as uploaded. Perhaps if you had selected 240 x 160 it might have been able to do the job. I don't know how it recognised the one you mentioned. Thanks anyway. Ww2censor (talk) 14:55, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- I made the bot author aware of this issue User_talk:Zhuyifei1999#Unexpectedly_FlickreviewR_2:_size_not_found. Looks like the problem is a Flickr bug. I fully support offloading work to bots, that's what I'm too trying to do here. --Palosirkka (talk) 17:46, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
File:Africa-countries-northern.svg
Hello.
Can you add Montenegro (because it was forgotten) and color South Sudan in light green (because it is more often counted as part of East Africa as well in regional schemes) in File:Africa-countries-northern.svg you uploaded?
I am adding South Sudan (as well as Montenegro and other possible missing updates) in the PNG maps in Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and Category:Maps needing Montenegro political boundaries, and then remove this category after updating them. There were close to 1100 maps since I started to update these files from 1 March 2018, now it is reduced to less than 780 maps, but there is a long way to go.
Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps myself, that is why I asked you.
Thank you.

- Hello Maphobbyist! Editing vector files is pretty similar to editing raster files, really. One nice tool for the job is Inkscape. It is free software, under the GPL. Please give it a try, I think you'll like it. Should it prove problematic for whatever reason, which I doubt, I'll gladly help. -- Palosirkka (talk) 14:34, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- Hello. Unfortunately, Inkscape cannot be downloaded, I suspect because due to the country where I live which happens to be Turkey, where Wikpedia is banned and blocked, along with thousands of non-political innocent websites (often without any reason, and not just terrorist and extremist websites). As I am totally SVG illiterate, that is why I requested this correction request from you. Kindest regards. Maphobbyist (talk) 20:13, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
